When we talk about the ship graveyard, many think of the drying up of the Aral Sea and the sinking of ships on its former shores.
The Aral Sea used to receive water from two major rivers in Central Asia – the Amudarya and the Syrdarya. This process has stalled for decades. Now the Amudarya itself is in need of water. Ships stranded off the coast could be the new ship graveyard in Karakalpakstan.
The reason is that the water level in the Amudarya is declining from year to year. The water level in the river has decreased from year to year. If the situation continues, it could cause great damage to the fauna and flora of the river.
It should be recalled that a fire broke out in Karakalpakstan in November in a grove on the banks of the Amudarya River, which lasted for three days.
