Uzbekistan returns 98 convicts from Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have reached a prisoner exchange agreement, allowing 98 Uzbek citizens to be transferred from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan to serve their sentences. The relevant draft law has already been approved in the first reading.
During a session of Kyrgyzstan's Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council), deputies reviewed and approved in the first reading the draft law "On the Ratification of the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Transfer of Persons Sentenced to Imprisonment for Further Serving Their Sentence," which was signed on July 18, 2024, in Tashkent.
This agreement governs bilateral cooperation on the transfer of convicted individuals to serve their sentences in their home country. According to Umutkan Konkubayeva, Deputy General Prosecutor, 98 citizens of Uzbekistan are currently serving sentences in Kyrgyzstan, while 42 Kyrgyz citizens are serving sentences in Uzbekistan.
