The ILC is the highest decision-making body of the International Labor Organization (ILO), where global labor and social issues, international labor standards, and the organization’s overall policy direction are discussed. More than 3,000 representatives of governments, employers, and workers from all 187 ILO member states are participating in the session.

In a historic first, the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Office in Geneva was unanimously elected Chair of the General Affairs Committee (CAG) of the 113th ILC by delegations of ILO member states.

As a standing body of the ILC, the General Affairs Committee plays a strategically vital role in ensuring the effective operation of the conference. It addresses complex governance issues and safeguards the institutional sustainability of the ILO. The Committee reviews and prepares conclusions on matters referred to it by the conference and oversees various aspects of the ILO’s work, with a particular focus on procedural, organizational, and institutional matters.

During its meetings, the Committee will consider a draft resolution on holding the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025, amendments to the 2006 Maritime Labor Convention, issues related to ILO’s continued cooperation with Myanmar, and a draft resolution on Palestine’s participation in ILO activities.

The election of Uzbekistan’s representative to such a high-profile and responsible position within one of the ILO’s key committees reflects the country's growing international standing and recognition of its active contribution to global social dialogue and progress in labor relations.

This appointment also presents Uzbekistan with a unique opportunity to contribute to strategic decision-making, strengthen its image in international labor law, and demonstrate its commitment to effective governance, human rights, and decent work principles.

According to ILO officials and tripartite partners from member states, the appointment is seen as acknowledgment of Uzbekistan's ongoing labor reforms, improved employment conditions, expanded workers’ rights, and dedication to tripartism and ILO principles.

There is strong confidence that under Uzbekistan’s chairmanship, the General Affairs Committee will carry out its responsibilities with a high degree of accountability, inclusivity, and transparency – ensuring the effective handling of key issues on the agenda and further strengthening the ILO’s institutional capacity.
