Boysun gas leak poses no threat, says Ministry of Ecology
The Ministry of Ecology has stated that the concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas in Boysun’s "Kofrun" neighborhood remains within permissible limits. This conclusion follows measurements taken at five different points in the area.

A technical accident occurred at pipeline No. 202, part of the “25 Years of Independence” gas-chemical complex in Boysun district, Surkhandarya region. As a result, hydrogen sulfide gas was released into the air. However, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, responding to an inquiry by Kun.uz, stated that the detected levels did not exceed regulatory standards.
To investigate the situation, a working group was formed comprising representatives from the Ministry of Ecology, the regional Emergency Situations Department, the Sanitary-Epidemiological Service, and other relevant agencies.
On June 8, 2025, between 8:00 and 11:00 AM, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) levels in the air were measured using various instruments at five locations within the "Kofrun" neighborhood.
According to the results, the concentration of hydrogen sulfide around the accident site (within a 500-meter radius), and in eastern, western, and northern directions (within distances ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 meters), as well as in the Kofrun village itself (1,500 meters away), did not exceed the established safety thresholds.
The Ministry emphasized that ongoing air quality monitoring and analysis will continue regularly in the area.
The initial incident occurred on May 5, when gas containing a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide was forcefully expelled from well No. 202 of the “25 Years of Independence” complex. The Ministry of Energy later explained that the gas release was controlled and flared. Authorities have reiterated that the event does not pose a danger to nearby residential areas.
