Former Denov district court chairman sentenced to 5 years in prison

Kamoliddin Murodov, the former chairman of the Denov district criminal court, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of causing a fatal traffic accident while driving under the influence. The accident claimed the life of a lawyer who was in the car with him.

According to the press service of the Supreme Court, the verdict in Murodov’s criminal case was announced today following an open court hearing conducted by the judicial panel for criminal cases of the Kashkadarya regional court.

The case was reviewed in the first instance under the leadership of U. Mamadaliev, Deputy Chairman of the Kashkadarya regional court and head of the judicial panel for criminal cases.

Murodov was found guilty under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan — violating traffic safety rules or vehicle operation regulations resulting in death. As part of the verdict, he has been sentenced to five years in prison and banned from driving for three years. He will serve his sentence in a settlement colony.

The incident occurred on March 9, 2024, when Murodov was involved in a car accident while accompanied by a lawyer acquaintance. The lawyer sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. Murodov denied all charges and claimed he was not driving at the time of the accident. However, forensic biological analysis confirmed that he was behind the wheel.

Earlier, in an interview with Kun.uz, the deceased lawyer’s sister shared details of the incident:

“Kamoliddin Murodov and my brother knew each other well. On the day of the incident, the judge came to my brother’s house in his official car. Later, they went somewhere together in my brother’s Lacetti.

“On their way back, the car veered off the road and crashed into a tree. As a result, my brother died. According to witnesses, the judge was driving at the time, while my brother, who was in the front passenger seat, was thrown from the vehicle. We believe the investigation will uncover the full truth. My brother left behind four children.”

At the end of December 2024, Murodov went into hiding to avoid prosecution. As a result, the Karshi City Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest and declared him wanted. The court also ruled that, once detained, he be transferred to Karshi city’s 5th pretrial detention center.
