3,500 women in Uzbekistan legally obligated to pay child support – Compulsory Enforcement Bureau

In Uzbekistan, 3,500 women have been assigned the legal obligation to pay child support. This was confirmed by the press service of the Compulsory Enforcement Bureau (CEB) in a statement to Kun.uz.

According to Farrukh Toshpolatov, head of the CEB’s press service, there were 240,000 enforcement documents related to alimony and financial support in 2018. As of the first half of 2025, this number has risen to 348,000 – a 45% increase over the past seven years. Of these, enforcement documents have been issued against 3,500 mothers who are required to pay child support.

Samarkand region accounts for the highest number of cases in which women are obligated to pay alimony, followed by the regions of Fergana, Surkhandarya, and Andijan.

For reference, child support obligations are typically assigned to fathers. However, when courts grant custody of children to the father, mothers may be designated as the paying party.

The CEB emphasized that although cases involving women paying alimony are relatively rare, the number is gradually increasing in parallel with the overall rise in child support enforcement. The Bureau aims to ensure equal accountability for both parents in order to protect children's rights.

“As of today, the Bureau is handling over 348,000 enforcement documents related to alimony and financial support. On average, each state enforcement officer is responsible for about 147 such documents per month,” the agency stated.

To note, more than 3,000 women were recorded as alimony payers across Uzbekistan in 2023.
