President of Azerbaijan praises Uzbekistan’s role in post-war Karabakh recovery

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for Uzbekistan’s contribution to the restoration of Karabakh, calling the country’s support highly significant. He made these remarks in response to a question from Uzbek journalist Sherzodkhon Kudratkhoja during a media forum held in Khankendi.

“The support of our Uzbek brothers is very important to us. Uzbekistan gave the first gift on the path to restoring Karabakh. At the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, we opened a school in Fuzuli named after Mirzo Ulugbek, designed for 960 students,” Aliyev said.

During the forum, Sherzodkhon Kudratkhoja asked President Aliyev several questions, including ones about the Zangezur Corridor and Aliyev’s late father, Heydar Aliyev. In response, the president emphasized the strategic importance of the corridor, saying it would become a vital artery connecting several countries.

When asked about his father, Ilham Aliyev spoke emotionally.

“In the difficult times our homeland faced, we were fortunate to have someone like Heydar Aliyev. He was already 70 and not in the best of health, but he was still able to bring the situation under control. My father was the one who wanted the liberation of Karabakh the most. Unfortunately, he did not live to see this day,” he said.
