Uzbekistan sees drop in number of self-employed drivers using taxi apps

The number of self-employed drivers working with taxi aggregators in Uzbekistan declined by more than 40,000 in the first seven months of 2025, according to official statistics.

As of August, 215 taxi aggregators were integrated with the tax authority’s information systems, up from 155 at the start of the year.

Between January and July, a total of 262.2 million taxi rides were recorded. The total turnover from these services exceeded UZS 5 trillion, with UZS 3.6 trillion (72.2%) paid in cash and UZS 1.4 trillion (27.8%) through non-cash transactions. The average receipt per trip stood at UZS 19,077.

Despite the growing turnover, the number of self-employed drivers declined. At the start of the year, 498,000 people were registered as passenger transport providers through aggregators. By August, this number had dropped to 457,300.

The most notable decrease was seen among drivers aged 30–50, who made up around 65% of the total. This group shrank by 26,051 people. The number of drivers under the age of 30 also declined significantly – by 32% (13,038 people).

The number of female drivers also fell over the period, from 4,124 to 3,480.

The most commonly used vehicles remain the Cobalt (23.5%), Nexia (21.5%), and Lacetti (16.9%). Electric vehicles accounted for 1.8% of the fleet.

Over the same seven-month period, aggregators paid a total of UZS 98.8 billion in taxes, including UZS 55.4 billion in VAT.
