Uzbekistan and Turkey to fully digitize freight transport permits

Officials from the transport authorities of both countries held negotiations in Bukhara, where one of the key topics was further digitalization of services in the field of international road freight transport. The goal is to make operations more convenient for national transport companies.

Currently, permits for bilateral and transit transport are issued electronically through the E-permit system. In the near future, the system will also begin handling permits for “third country” transport operations, which will be launched in a test phase.

Full electronic processing of all types of transport permits is expected to be operational from the beginning of 2026.

In addition to digitalization, the two sides also discussed the development and modernization of passenger hubs and bus terminals. The delegations agreed to study Turkey’s experience in implementing smart transport systems and developing infrastructure for passenger transportation.

Turkey became the first country with which Uzbekistan launched the issuance of transport permits through the E-permit system in November 2022. The initiative aimed to accelerate transport operations and boost trade turnover between the two nations.

In April 2024, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan also launched an electronic system for international freight transport permits. Later that summer, it was reported that Uzbekistan planned to streamline freight operations with SCO member states.

The Ministry of Transport is also planning to sign new international road transport agreements with Belgium, Armenia, Serbia, Norway, Croatia, and Albania, as well as revise existing agreements with China, Iran, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania.
